A sound installation by John D’Arcy in Castle Coole, Co. Fermanagh as part of the inaugural Happy Days International Beckett Festival, celebrating the life and work of old Portoran Samuel Beckett.
John D’Arcy, who was commissioned by Happy Days to create the installation says,
“I composed abstract soundscapes inspired by Irish author Samuel Beckett for the Kitchen, Servants Hall and Wine Cellar, while the rest of the basement was brought to life with the sounds of Samuel Beckett’s ‘Company’ and ‘Molloy’”.
The Happy Days Festival ran from 23-27 August 2012 in Enniskillen, and attracted performers and festival-goers from around the world to County Fermanagh.
It took quite a few hours to capture each of the rooms on camera, which gave plenty of time for John’s sounds to seep into the soul. Film production required carefully editing John’s audio together with the footage to try and evoke the feeling of being wrapped-around by the atmospheric and powerful sounds.
